2019: Goals. Dreams. Grants.

2019: Goals. Dreams. Grants.

As a new year begins, companies around the world reflect on to how to best achieve their goals and dreams in the coming year. It's a great resetting time to think through how to get results. Evaluate what they did and didn't do and take an approach to change their future.

With the world spinning today with change (how we do things) or how people work for or with us (employees, consultants, contingent workforce), we need a plan not only based on achieving goals, but how the parts of the system will help us get there.

Step 1: What do You want to achieve?

Often this plan is carved from the minds of board of directors, business owners, or executives who assess opportunities to meet sustainable growth (given existing market conditions) or expansion plans to take over and expand to new markets (locally, nationally, or internationally). Think big, bold, and beyond borders in 2019.

Step 2: Who is on the team?

As we move forward in 2019, I highly suggest rethinking who does what and how you plan your workforce. What positions do you keep as full time positions and what positions you outsource (contracting, consulting, or subcontracting) or automate. As workforce #'s change and as workers no longer wish to be with one firm full time, your planning will need to be flexible to meet the market changes to sustain growth. Review budgets and benefits plans to ensure they are in line with your future goals. Think about brainstorming new ways to innovative your business, motivate your people, and attract the best clients on the market.

Step 3: What technology can help?

Businesses now have so many options in terms of how they can automate business activities. It is a good time to explore what tasks can be automated and measured to help you make better business decisions. From on boarding employees (and building internal content for learning systems) to business processes, the ability to use automation will set your business apart from others. As a selling strategy, data speaks value add x 10. Plan to assess your tech needs, what data to collect (and why) to increase your business value in 2019.

Step 4: What is the process we will use to engage the team to get things done?

Spelling out what the game plan looks like helps all people on the team to know the direction you are headed for. As the hands on work happens in teams and front line staff, it is critical that they understand the "why" behind the goals, and the route to what needs to be done. To bring energy to the projects/goals, they need to feel their contribution matters to the big picture results. I often say visioning what it will feel like when we have arrived? How will be celebrate the successes (along the way and when we achieve our goals) ? How do we change and communicate challenges? Having a plan around the people side of change is critical to getting the desired outcomes.

Step 5: What GRANTS can we access to help us achieve our goals faster?

This is where I come in. I have fun sharing and setting up grants and training to help companies reach their goals. From hiring to business development internationally and innovation, grants can be strategically positioned to help you along the way. This is definitely an outsourced project that you can easily free up man or women hours with limited cost to your firm. Think out of the box and who can help us achieve our goals faster.

Stop doing same old

Time to make a leap and take advantage of options and opportunities to grow. Imagine having a business team around you watching out for money, leads, and resources that you only pay when you get results. Rethink your strategy (systems and human resources) so you can stay competitive and get business flowing to you faster in the year ahead.
